As OpenAI’s Science Communicator, you’ll be responsible for writing and editing blog posts on and helping to collaborate on other content initiatives at OpenAI, such as podcasts, materials for press and policy briefings, video scripts, and so on.

This is a varied role that offers candidates the chance to devise and tell stories about fundamental artificial intelligence research in a variety of formats while reinforcing the messages contained in the OpenAI Charter. The role involves significant collaboration with people across OpenAI; successful candidates will spend much of their time engaging directly with researchers and engineers to help them tell their stories.

Here’s what we’re looking for in candidates:

  • A demonstrable ability to read contemporary artificial intelligence research papers and tell stories about them.
  • Proven expertise in writing and editing in deadline-oriented environments.
  • A desire to learn about artificial intelligence in a rigorous, scientific environment.

Successful applicants will likely have professional experience in science journalism or technical writing and marketing, or may have spent time working as an engineer or researcher while writing and editing in their spare time.

We think you’ll enjoy this job if you like spending your time:

Reading technical research papers, thinking about how the overall AI landscape is changing as a consequence of specific aspects of technical research, talking with subject-matter experts to devise good stories, writing and editing technical copy for demanding audiences, and coming up with unconventional ways to tell scientific stories.
